Our dedicated Board of Directors represents the full social tapestry of the Negev and beyond. They all identify with Desert Stars values and mission and work alongside our staff to fulfil the Theory of Change.
Dr. Mohammed Alnabari
Board Chair
Dr. Alnabari, head of Hura Local Municipality since 2004, has pioneered new approaches for advancing and promoting the Negev Bedouin community. In addition to his instrumental work with Desert Stars, Dr. Alnabari is actively involved with several social enterprises and non-profits. Formerly, Dr. Alnabari led the research and development team at Agis Industries (now Perrigo). He holds a Ph.D. in the chemical synthesis of natural materials (Ben Gurion University), an M.A. in Organic Chemistry (Hebrew University), and a B.A. in Organic Chemistry (Hebrew University).

Prof. Rivka Carmi
Board Member
A Geneticist and Pediatrician, she has held many academic posts such as: Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Head of the Medical Schools' Deans Association in Israel and President of Ben-Gurion University until the end of 2018. Member of the Rivlin and Locker Committees. One of the founders of the Scientific Council of Great Britain and Israel, awarded the rank of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). Professor Carmi has published hundreds of studies and articles, has been involved in various projects to prevent inherited diseases in the Bedouin community and in projects to promote women's education among this population. She actively promotes women's rights, in academia and medicine in particular.

Major General (res.) Nitsan Alon

Alon served in a number of senior roles in the IDF. He served as CG Operations Directorate, Commander of Central Command and Commander of Intelligence and Special Forces units where he was awarded the chief of staff citation for a clandestine mission. In 2018 Alon was appointed as leader of the struggle against Iran. Alon holds a Double degree in Physics and Materials Engineering from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology.
Alon is married to Mor and a father of four.

Dr. Elkaid, a specialist in family medicine, manages a medical clinic in the Bedouin town of Kuseife. He holds an B.S. in Civil Engineering (Sami Shamoon College of Engineering).

Sigal Moran
Board Member
In the year 2009 Sigal Moran was elected the Head of Bnei Shimon regional council, a position she fulfilled for 9 years. Mrs. Moran led an impressive process of demographic growth and was also a partner in the construction of Hatzerim Park, the "Edan Hanegev" and "Shoket" junction employment zones as well as Lahav Forest's 'adaptation for tourism' project. Sigal Moran is a partner and a leader of many forums in the Negev region and serves as chairman of "Maavarim" organization. She holds an MA in Public Policy and is currently the CEO of the Branco Weiss Institute.

Igal Jusidman

Mr. Jusidman was born in Mexico and has lived in Israel and Sweden in recent years. He is President of the family's foundation, the Daniel Foundation, since 2010 and serves on the Board of Directors of many organizations. Daniel Foundation is involved with a variety of institutions and non-profit organizations in Israel that are engaged in strengthening Israeli society and assisting disadvantaged populations.

Elisha Kra

Mr. Kra is active in multiple educational organizations in the Negev. Mr. Kra is a former vice president of Cal, a major Israeli credit card company, and has served in the Prime Minister's Office. He holds an MBA (Ben Gurion University), a B.A. in Logistics (Bar Ilan University).

Itzik Zivan
Board Member
Mr. Zivan is the CEO of Al-Sanabel, a catering business that employs and empowers Bedouin women. He is also the co-owner of Zivtex Ltd., a global apparel supplier. Mr. Zivan is a former vice president of Pex Ltd. and former division CEO at Delta Textiles. He holds a B.S. Computer Science (Technion Institute of Technology)

Dr. Tailakh heads the nursing research unit at Soroka University Medical Center and lectures at the Leon and Mathilde Recanati School for Community Health Professions at Ben Gurion University. His specialty is epidemiology, with an emphasis on chronic disease and transcultural epidemiology in Israel's south. He holds a PhD, a master's in public health, and a nursing degree.

Mr. Al-Sana is the founder and CEO of Z.N. Engineering and Construction Ltd. He also co-founded "Afaq", the first Bedouin business forum, and is he first Bedouin businessperson to establish a social fund to support projects in the Bedouin community. Mr. Alsana is active in building Arab-Jewish business partnerships. He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Sami Shamoon College of Engineering.

Is the co-executive director of AJEEC-NISPED, a non-profit dedicated to Arab-Jewish partnership. He is also the manager of Segev Shalom's Social Services Department. Mr Elbaz holds an MBA (Haifa University), an M.A. in Social Policy Planning (WLU, Canada), and a B.A. in Social Work (Ben Gurion University)
